Quinoa by itself is rather plain with a slight crunch and a subtle nutty flavor, but it can be an excellent compliment to other foods. This time, we had it with grilled salmon and asparagus and getting a bite with all three flavors together was really tasty. Making it with chicken broth adds just a hint of flavor.

This traditional quinoa wasn't as nutty and flavorful as the Inca Red quinoa. It was a much more basic flavor that I think would go well as a side dish with a variety of dinners. It was light and fresh and healthy-tasting. And the leftovers reheated nicely for dinner the next day!

I love Ancient Harvest pasta. I haven't had their brand of quinoa yet, but I'm sure it's good! I always cook it in some sort of broth or other flavorful liquid, like white wine.
ReplyDeleteYeah...their pasta is really great too! We have a review of it coming up soon! And cooking quinoa in white whine sounds like an awesome idea! We'll have to try that next time!
ReplyDeleteI like this quinoa a lot. I like to make it when I have something that has a bit of a sauce itself (e.g., shrimp scampi, jambalaya) and then serve it over the quinoa, using it like you would rice. Quinoa is also good for making salads with a variety of nice veggies chopped up and spices/seasonings (add those when cooking).

I hadn't thought of using quinoa for a salad! We'll have to try that too!
